DERBYHAVEN: RESIDENTS TO APPEAL
Derbyhaven residents packed into the Manx Flyers Aero Club on Thusday 18th May to discuss the way forward after the Planning Application (Ref. 05/02044/A) to build seventeen houses and four apartments on the adjoining golf course was approved on review.
Amazement was expressed that planning approval was granted despite overwhelming opposition, and reasoned argument against, from Statutory Bodies, Local Government and local residents. It appears to confirm a trend on the Island that decisions are being taken on a more centralised basis with little regard to the local situation.
Residents were unanimous in their decision to lodge an appeal against the planning consent and to step up their public awareness campaign as they believe that the issues involved have implications far beyond Derbyhaven. It was clear that the mood in the village had hardened considerably since the review decision became public.
There was universal determination at the meeting that the fight would go on until natural justice was done. The Department of Local Government and the Environment have statutory obligations to the public at large and it was clearly felt that these were not carried out, especially with regard to the promised Section 18 agreement. Residents also felt that they had been deceived by the applicant.
Local residents take their obligations seriously, as custodians of Derbyhaven, for all the people of the Isle of Man and beyond to enjoy. They will not tolerate the destruction of this scenic and historic village with unwanted and irresponsible development. They will not back off!
Full details of the issues involved can be found elsewhere on this website.
